Rebecca Yaker and Carly Ferguson are two incredibly inspiring players in the wellness space around the southern part of the US. If you aren’t following them already for incredible wellness inspo, you should. 

Rebecca is a yogi, runner and health/life enthusiast. Carly is an Integrative Nutrition health coach and culinary nutrition expert on a mission to make healthy simple. 

And these wellness-minded friends have created a brand new wellness fest that will take place towards the end of March in Orlando, Florida. It’s called SOULMADE Wellness Fest, and we caught up with these two beauties to find out more about SOULMADE, why they created it and each of their tips for living their healthiest lives…

TELL US MORE ABOUT SOULMADE WELLNESS FEST. WHAT IS IT AND WHEN/WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?

SOULMADE is a 4-hour event that we created to help people ignite their souls and to inspire us all to be our best selves. We believe that wellness is a lifestyle and that most people who are into wellness, at any stage in their journey, are likely looking to dive deeper into what a mind/body connection really means for their life. Our vision is that people will leave SOULMADE with their souls on fire to live a healthier and more passionate life. 

SOULMADE is a place to connect with other like-minded individuals in a place that inspires them and leaves them feeling more confident and energized about health and wellness. It takes place on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 9:00-1:00 PM at Orange Studio in Orlando, Florida.

WHEN PEOPLE ATTEND SOULMADE, WHAT CAN THEY EXPECT?

Amazing things! We will kick off the day with a yoga session by a local yoga studio owner, then move into a guided meditation. There will be a ‘How to Build a Healthy Smoothie’ demo led by Carly who is a health coach and culinary nutrition expert, along with plenty of samples of our favorite Daily Harvest superfood smoothie cups. We’ll then move into our ‘Finding Food Freedom’ Panel Discussion, followed by a ‘Mastering Your Best Self’ Mindset Discussion. All SOULMADE participants will leave with an incredible swag bag filled with our favorite health and wellness brands to kick start their journey towards their best self. 

REBECCA, YOU LIVE IN DALLAS, AND CARLY, YOU LIVE IN THE ORLANDO AREA. HOW DID YOU CONNECT?

We met through the wonderful platform that is Instagram and we immediately clicked. We found that we already had so much in common through our passion for health and wellness. The two of us were meeting for coffee one day and developed the idea to create an environment that would encourage relationships just like ours, a space that would ignite attendees’ souls to cultivate their best selves among a community of wellness seekers. 

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE A SPACE WHERE THEY CAN COME TOGETHER AND CONNECT OVER WELLNESS?

One of our main goals is to create an inclusive environment. We want our community to be defined by people of all backgrounds who are on different walks along their health journeys. Our priority is to make our community feel comfortable and welcomed to evolve, ask questions and connect.

AS YOU MENTIONED EARLIER, THE SOULMADE ITINERARY INCLUDES YOGA, MEDITATION, A FOOD FREEDOM PANEL AND A MASTERING YOUR MINDSET DISCUSSION. HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU FEEL THAT MIND/BODY CONNECTION IS FOR OVERALL HEALTH?

It is the essence of health and well being! Without both aspects, we wouldn’t have balance. 

WHAT DO YOUR OWN DAILY WELLNESS ROUTINES LOOK LIKE? FAVORITE TIPS, FAVORITE PRODUCTS, WORKOUTS, HOW YOU FIT IN THINGS LIKE MEDITATION, FOODS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT…

Rebecca: The most important part of my day is when I wake up. I consciously start my morning with gratitude and intention because it sets the tone for my day. Every morning I take an ACV + lemon + water shot and on my best days I head to a workout bright and early. Yoga is essential to my life, I love to stretch my body and let my mind go, and it helps me to relieve anxiety. I’ve connected with so many amazing people through yoga. It’s one of the aspects of my life that most strongly influenced SOULMADE. I was inspired by the welcoming environment of like-minded individuals I found myself at a local yoga studio and I wanted to create this on a larger scale. After my workout, I’m sure to have a filling and well-rounded breakfast. Lately, avocado toast is my go-to. My body loves fats, so the carbs + fat + protein combo is perfect for me. I concoct my coffee with nut milk, collagen, maca powder and cinnamon and am off to the office. I work a desk job so I concentrate on staying hydrated throughout the day and set reminders on my calendar to get up and walk around every so often. After work I like to get another mini-workout in, which is sometimes just a walk outside or a dance party in my living room, but something to get me moving again so I don’t crash from the exhaustion of sitting all day (how does that even happen?!). One of my weaknesses is that I tend to snack after work rather than cook and eat an actual dinner. It’s definitely not a habit I would recommend; I’m working on breaking this to spend time making dinner for my husband and I so we can sit down to eat together more. When it comes to food, I really emphasize whole foods in our kitchen, so I’m not really a ‘I can’t live without this product’ type. There are TONS of delicious options and so many companies making good choices more convenient, but all I really need is some fresh produce and a good olive oil!

Carly: I believe that health starts from the moment you wake up. In the mornings, I usually have oatmeal with berries and almond butter if I’m rushing out the door. Or, I’ll have a piece of avocado toast with a fried egg if I’ve got a busy day ahead and need the extra fuel. I try to drink a cup of warm lemon water while I wait for the coffee to brew, which wakes up my digestive system and hydrates after a good night’s sleep. Before I start work for the day, I try to practice gratitude by sending an appreciation text to a loved and I meditate with music or something I’m currently reading before getting caught up in the craziness of the day. As a business owner and health coach, each day is a little bit different for me. If I’m not meeting with clients, I’m usually in my kitchen working on recipes for the blog or my cooking classes. If there’s one thing I always try and incorporate into my day, it’s smoothies! These gems are my secret to a nutritious lifestyle because they are easy to make and a great way to sneak in nutrients. My favorite combo lately is berries (which are low in sugar and high in antioxidants), a big handful of spinach, vanilla protein powder, avocado and almond milk. Yum! One of the biggest challenges of having my own business is turning work “off”, and it’s something I’m still working on building boundaries around. What helps me is prioritizing movement each day, whether that’s a run outside, time in the gym or taking a Bar Method class. My meals usually consist of some kind of soup or a power bowl, but always something that’s quick and easy to throw together and full of plant-based nutrients. I’m not 100% plant-based, but I do find that these are the foods that make me feel and function at my best, so I make them a priority in my day. I also agree with Rebecca, it’s all about getting back to real, whole foods. Healthy doesn’t have to be complicated unless you make it that way. I’m all about simplifying in and out of the kitchen.

WHAT ARE THE MANTRAS YOU’RE BOTH CURRENTLY LIVING BY?

Rebecca: You are capable of amazing things!

Carly: Live your best life.

Rebecca: Apples, hummus and lemons.

Carly: A huge tub of spinach (for smoothies, salads, power bowls and pretty much everything else I eat), individual hummus and guacamole packs for an easy snack on-the-go and lemons for my hot lemon water in the morning or to add fresh flavor to my meals. 

ANY CAN’T-LIVE-WITHOUT CLEAN BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

We’re hoping to take it on the road! In the midst of our planning, Rebecca accepted an amazing job opportunity that relocated her to Dallas. Naturally, we’d love for this to be our next destination.
