With a master’s degree from Maryland University of Integrative Health and training in Eastern Medicine, acupuncture and spiritual healing, Noell Eanes has built a career, and a life, based on not only helping others find healing through love, but on finding it for herself. 

As an Eastern Medicine practitioner, licensed acupuncturist and wellness consultant in the New Orleans area, she uses many different modalities in working with her clients, but her goal for each of them is common: to help clients heal and create deeper, more loving relationships with themselves, their bodies and the world around them. 

We caught up with Noell to learn more about how she works with clients, and to find out more about her own daily practices (meditation, self care and journaling) for finding love and compassion for herself and others during her day. You could say she takes a daily dose of her own love based medicine


 

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOU DO AS AN EASTERN MEDICINE PRACTITIONER, LICENSED ACUPUNCTURIST AND WELLNESS CONSULTANT, AND HOW YOU WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR WORK TO SOMEONE?

I would say that my job is to create balance. When someone is balanced, health tends to occur naturally. The Eastern Medicine approach is holistic in nature, and the basic premise is to create a balanced internal state for each person. It does this through therapeutic approaches including acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary guidance, meditation, movement therapy like quigong and manual therapy like gua sha and cupping. Acupuncture is one piece of being an Eastern Medicine practitioner — I use tiny needles placed in points along energy lines, or meridians, in the body to create balance.

As a wellness consultant, I work with CEO’s and directors of organizations who want to incorporate mindfulness and wellness programs into their businesses. They want to bring a greater sense of well being, productivity and balance to their employees and members. I recently launched my business, Zen@Work, and we focus on bringing mindfulness programs and stress reduction into the workplace! Companies like Google and Aetna are using mindfulness in the workplace with great results. It’s really exciting! Imagine everybody going home from work happy instead of stressed out. I believe by alleviating stress, one organization at a time, we can begin to change the world.

HOW HAS YOUR OWN HEALING AND SPIRITUAL JOURNEY INFLUENCED HOW YOU WORK WITH OHTERS AND WHAT YOU TEACH YOUR CLIENTS AROUND SPIRITUALITY AND CONNECTING WITH THEMSELVES ON A VERY DEEP LEVEL?

Oh my, what a question! My own healing and spiritual journey influences absolutely everything I do. I feel like I was born into this world as a seeker. I’ve always been an absolute sponge, eternally curious about life and the conditions that lead to healing. Through my own life experiences (both the really good and the really bad), and because I’m a sponge, I’ve gained a wide array of knowledge, compassion and understanding about what it is to be alive. I know that the one thing that truly healed me on multiple levels was learning to Love myself. I think that is key for all of us when it comes to healing, and I continue to learn ways to do that with my clients, who evolve with me as I learn. It’s truly a blessing to be doing this work. 

YOU ALSO DO DISTANCE SESSIONS WITH YOUR CLIENTS. HOW DOES THAT WORK?

Distance guidance sessions are based on my work with intuition, energy and the metaphysical realm. I currently offer three different types of distance sessions. They are one additional way (and I LOVE doing these) that I can help someone come to a place of balance. We’ve all been there at a time when something is weighing on your mind and heart. It can really be energetically draining! These sessions help to create some forward movement and clarity around a situation or issue. I begin each session with a brief meditation to tune in to what is going on energetically for that person, and then we spend time on the phone or over Skype discussing relevant insights, breakthroughs and guidance. I especially love doing a distance session with someone I have never met or know nothing about. The guidance that comes through always amazes me! It’s such a thrill to know that we are so much more than just meat-covered skeletons. 

FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NEW TO LEARNING ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND HEALING, HOW DO YOU START WITH HELPING THEM GET ON A MORE HEALING PATH? WHAT DO YOU HAVE CLIENTS LOOK AT FIRST WHEN GETTING STARTED?

In the beginning of treating someone with acupuncture, I often do an unblocking/clearing session first before doing anything else. In my own experience, a lot of true healing has to do with letting go of what is blocking the natural “flow.” We are designed for thriving! If I had to suggest clients look at one thing when getting started, it would be, what is blocking you from thriving? That could be a destructive habit, excessive self-criticism, excessive fear, a toxic relationship…even limiting beliefs that stem from childhood. Sometimes it can be all of these things and more. That’s okay! Even tiny changes add up over time. 

OUR WORLD IS SO FAST PACED AND IT SEEMS THAT PEOPLE REALLY DON’T TAKE THE TIME TO SLOW DOWN AND CONNECT WITH HOW THEY’RE FEELING EACH DAY. HOW WOULD YOU GUIDE PEOPLE TOWARDS JUST HAVING MORE AWARENESS AROUND LIMITING BELIEFS OR PATTERNS AND HABITS THAT ARE HOLDING THEM BACK FROM LIVING A LIFE OF MORE JOY AND ABUNDANCE?

Meditation. Simple answer, but truly, meditation. For those people who are absolutely opposed to meditation, I would suggest solo travel with an open mind. Traveling opened me up to the fact that there are many, many different ways to live life, and what better way to shatter limiting beliefs and shed old patterns than to remove yourself completely from the familiar? I also coach people using the Infinite Possibilities framework where we look at limiting beliefs, but meditation and travel are great places to start!

WHAT DO YOUR OWN DAILY RITUALS AND ROUTINES LOOK LIKE IN THE WAY OF LIVING FROM A PLACE OF MORE LOVE AND COMPASSION?

I find that if I don’t start the morning off with meditation and journaling, I feel off. For my sanity, I need that sacred space to reflect, to set my intentions for the day and to express myself. I do my “morning pages,” where essentially I fill up three pages (or more) with whatever comes into my mind. Sometimes there are lots of words, sometimes there are drawings, sometimes expletives. After the pages are filled up, there’s no censoring, no judgment and no re-reading. It’s complete and total freedom to express. It’s an exercise from Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way, which I highly recommend! When I carve out that time for myself to explore, connect and show up fully, it’s healing. When I allow myself that space, I’m more likely to come from a place of love and compassion with others.

WHAT ARE YOUR NON-NEGOTIABLES AS FAR AS YOUR DAILY SELF CARE GOES? 

See above! Meditation for me is pretty non-negotiable. If I can’t meditate in the morning, I will do it some other time before I go to sleep. Because I interact with so many people energetically, I need that time to reset. Also, good food!

WHERE DO YOU BELIEVE THE PHYSICAL ASPECTS LIKE FOOD, MOVEMENT AND SLEEP ALL FIT INTO LIVE A LIFE THAT FEELS BETTER, MIND/BODY/SOUL?

Essential! They are so intricately connected. I think we all know that, but we try to ignore the evidence! Just tune into how your body/mind/soul feels when you eat crappy food versus high quality, fresh, organic food. The same with how your body/mind/soul feels after getting in some good movement. Sleep will generally be better once those other two have improved. Let’s face it, after a few nights of NOT getting good sleep, most of us do not need to be convinced that sleep is important to overall well being. Each person will have slight variations in terms of their specific needs, but in general, these things are essential for feeling better!

HOW DO YOU STAY CENTERED AND ROOTED IN LOVE EACH DAY? HOW DO YOU COME BACK WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF OUT OF YOUR CENTER, OUT OF YOUR ALIGNMENT OF LOVE?

Again, meditation is very central to my well being. When I am feeling out of alignment, it usually takes effort to act from a place of integrity and love. When I am in alignment, it’s pretty effortless. An interesting habit I have is looking into my own eyes in the mirror when I’m washing my hands or brushing my teeth, or even sometimes just in passing. In Chinese Medicine, we can see the relative health of someone’s spirit (called Shen) by looking into the eyes. When I look into my eyes, I get a sense of where I am energetically; if I notice I am off, I take a minute to stop, breathe and come back to center. 

YOU’VE SAID THAT YOU BELIEVE LOVE IS THE MOST POWERFUL FORCE ON THE PLANET. WHY?

If you study what creates thriving in the human body, you will find that feeling loved is one of the most powerful indicators of a long and healthy life. If it helps us live longer, I’d say it’s pretty powerful!
